From Covid Triage Centre to a warm community hub, The Angel Centre is now responding to the cost of living crisis by providing elderly and low-income community members with a daily free hot meal.
The warm hub, which opened on the 1st of November, is open Monday to Friday from 12:30 to 2:30pm. It is available to all community members with meals costing £1.50 for those not eligible to free meals.
Kate Simpson, Service Director has seen an increase in demand for the centre’s food club, which provides healthy ingredients and meal options at low prices. She stated: “We just felt like it was a really big need in the community and wanted to fill that gap, we don’t want to see anyone going hungry.”
Menu options vary from each week, including: cheese and onion pie, roast beef and chicken casserole, with alternatives available for those with dietary requirements.
The centre aspires to be a welcoming space for the local community to get together and share a meal. Kate believes the centre has got the atmosphere right. She explained: “This is always a very warm space it’s always a good space for people to come as it gets colder.”
The Angel Centre is a social enterprise that aims for Salford people to lead healthier and happier lives. It offers an extensive range of services, courses and events aimed at health and wellbeing such as fitness classes, counselling, social opportunities and arts and crafts.

The café is already proving popular, and Kate is confident in its capacity. she added: “There is still room for other people to come along we can increase demand and we can do extra sittings if needed.”
