The A666 will be closed overnight from Manchester Road to Bolton Road for a total of seven nights following resurfacing work.
The works began last night (Sunday 13th November) and are set to continue until this Friday evening (18th November), then again on the 21st and 22nd November.
The road will be closed from 19:00 until 06:00 the following day, with only buses allowed to pass through the closure zone.
The closure stretches just over half a mile from the junction with Wynne Avenue to the junctions with Queensway and Station Road.
Commuters are being advised to use Wynne Avenue and Rake Lane or Carlisle Street and Little Moss Lane to reach roads inside the closure zone. The main diversion route will take motorists via Walkden along the A6, A575 and A666 in both directions.
Junction 16 of the M60 is expected to remain open, but motorists are being advised use alternative junctions to join or leave the motorway to avoid the diversion.
Don’t forget A666 Manchester Rd & Bolton Rd are fully closed overnight this week from Wynne Ave to Queensway/Station Rd for resurfacing 7pm to 6am. Buses running but services/stops will be affected. Diversions signposted. Details at: https://t.co/YBa3iVCjA1 pic.twitter.com/T4n94hXXX1
