Members of Salford’s d/Deaf community hosted an event to share feedback on health and care services in the city.

The event was planned and led members of Healthwatch Salford’s Silent Voices group, who are campaigning for the experiences of d/Deaf residents in the city, in partnership with the NHS in Salford.

BSL interpreters facilitated conversations between members of the public and representatives from hospitals, GPs, mental health and social care services.

The event also served as the official launch of Healthwatch Salford’s BSL feedback, a new service where d/Deaf members of the public can submit a written or BSL video message to share their experiences.

Sam Cook, Chief Officer of Healthwatch Salford, said: “It was a powerful event and brilliant to see members of the public get the opportunity to share their honest feedback – which was well-received by the professionals who came along.

“We’re also excited to launch a brand-new way for d/Deaf people in Salford to share their views with decision makers in the city – in a way that suits them best.

We’re encouraging those who will benefit from the service to get in touch and tell us what their recent experience with health and care services was like – both good and bad – so that we can improve services for everyone in the city.

“A huge thank you to the Silent Voices group for leading the event – and to the local professionals and Healthwatch England chief executive Louise Ansari and Chair of the Independent Commission on Whole Person Care, Sir John Oldham, for coming along and actively listening to people’s experiences.”

Members of the d/Deaf community looking to get involved with Silent Voices can send a message or record a video in BSL to WhatsApp on 07410411558.
