Online tributes have been paid to the admin of the beloved Facebook community group, ‘Salford Yester Years’.

Gary Williams is believed to have been found dead in his flat by Police yesterday afternoon. Investigations into his death are still ongoing.

Group officials announced the news via the Facebook group, with over 450 likes and 280 comments flooding in.

Group member, Eliane Coleridge wrote: DEAR MEMBERS.. I have been asked by JADE SHERRATT to put this message on the group.

Sadly Gary Alan Williams passed away suddenly in his flat. The police found him .
Jade Sherratt says she will pass on any information to us all as soon as she hears anything.
R I P Gary 🙁 xx”

Gary was the sole admin of the ‘Salford Yester Years’ group, a page dedicated to sharing photos and memories of Salford’s past. The group has just under 15,000 members, with Mr Williams working to filter through each and every group post.

Group member, Valerie Irala, commented: “So very sad to hear that. Gary gave good years of service to this page. Hopefully he did not suffer. Thank you Gary RIP.”

Another poster, Bryan Lockitt, followed: “I am so sorry to hear of passing of Gary. He dedicated his time to bringing so much pleasure and memories with the immense amount of photos etc. In relation to old Salford. Sincere condolences to all his family and friends. R.I.P and God bless!”

Further information into Gary Williams death is yet to be announced by Salford Police.
