Salford residents have been left divided after Rishi Sunak became the nation’s third Prime Minister in less than two months.
Earlier this week, the former Chancellor of the Exchequer stood to address the United Kingdom after winning the latest Tory leadership race.
During his statement, he said: “I will place economic stability and confidence at the heart of this government’s agenda” Sunak followed with: “but you saw me during covid, doing everything I could to protect people and businesses”
Salford’s general public had mixed opinions on Sunak’s words, with social media platforms alight with opinions.
One Facebook user said: “Let’s hope he can deliver on everything he said in his statement earlier. actions speak louder than words. Anyone can talk the talk, its actions we need, and now” they then go onto say: “I have no faith in any of them anymore, they have not a clue what they are doing.”
Another user said: “As long as he works hard to sort out this mess out, I don’t care how popular he is or how rich, so I’d say give him a chance.”
The new Prime Minister has already started to undo the decisions made by Liz Truss, as a part of his new cabinet, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, will be keeping his role and has already begun to reverse a majority of Truss’ mini budget. Furthermore, Dominic Raab has been appointed Deputy PM and Justice Secretary.
