Folk musicians, Johnny Campbell and Joe Solo, are performing at the Working Class Movement Library as part of their Engels Week celebrations.
Performing a crowd of only 30, the musicians are set to deliver a night of radical song as part of a series of events marking Engels Week.
The week sets out to celebrate the work of the philosopher and political critic, Frederich Engels, who explored the sociopolitical climate of Salford and Manchester throughout the 1800s. He also worked with Philosopher, Karl Marx, to create the Communist Manifesto.
This is the second time Campbell has performed at the centre this year after he brought his ‘Winter Hill Trespass’ tour back in March. He said: “Its a one-time event that’s coincided quite nicely with Engels Week, but the songs Joe Solo and I do marry quite well with a lot of what the Working Class Movement Library is about.
“To play somewhere like the Working Class Movement Library, with all the history that surrounds it and the memorabilia, links directly to the music and it’s an inspiring place to play.
“Myself and Joe like to play in places out of the ordinary, not just in a pub, but doing it in a unique space so it isn’t just full of weekend drinkers, its a welcoming space for all.”
Performing the likes of “A Right to Roam”, “To the Begging I Will Go” and “The Dalesman’s Litany”, Campbell hopes to learn more about Engels Week when visiting the centre. He followed: “Its coinciding quite nicely so I’m going to get down early and see what the crack is and learn more. As well as that, Joe Solo and Engels shared a birthday, so we might even get some cake.”
Johnny Campbell and Joe Solo are also set to perform in Hull on 27th November, and Huddersfield on 3rd December as part of their mini tour.
