Local Organisation The Little Children’s Market, are hosting their biggest pre-loved market event in Worsley because attendance has more than doubled during the cost of living crisis.
The event on November 6 will be their third in Worsley, but this time they have upgraded from the Lowry Academy’s canteen to the sports hall to meet the demand of shoppers.
Franchise owner Bethany Shirley, 27, explained the need for the upgrade. “Attendance has more than doubled over the past year. The cost of living crisis has meant that parents rely on these events now for clothes and toys for their babies.”
She said she has saved hundreds from buying second-hand, and at these events you can sometimes get 70-90% off the original retail price for items.
The event also allows local vendors to sell clothes, toys and books that their children may have outgrown. Stalls are available for £15 for a 12ft table on a first come first served basis.
Bethany said families who have not shopped second-hand before have now been turning to pre-loved items to save money during the cost of living crisis. She urges people to consider that children do not mind whether the item comes in packaging. They care more about how fun it is for them to play with.
The Little Children’s Market started back in 2016 and has been expanding all over the North-West and beyond, going as far as Scotland and Wales. They are happy to be back in Worsley because they have family from Salford and Manchester. Their aim is to “keep toys out of landfill and help local families who need toys and items for their babies and children.”
Bethany is urging anyone who is considering buying pre-loved toys to come along next week. People are welcome to walk around as much as they want from 11am to 12:30pm, however those wanting a quieter shopping experience are advised to arrive halfway through the event.
Entry for the event is £2 with children going free. Tables are available to be booked here.
