Irlam library is hosting a coffee and chat session tomorrow to support those in the community suffering from the cost of living crisis.
The meeting aims to answer any questions regarding council tax bills, stopping smoking, getting online and generally how to make your money go further amongst the rising costs.
Tomorrow is our first BetterOff coffee and chat session at #Irlam library. Whether you have questions about your council tax bill, how to make your money go further, stop smoking or get online, we can help. https://t.co/i6mhjug0yP @SalfordLeisure #CostOfLiving pic.twitter.com/heRa8iMiTV

This session is not the only one of its kind, with more sessions being held at Irlam library weekly from 9:00am – 12:30pm – with BetterOff and partner organisations available to help get Salford residents through the difficult period.
Appointments can also be booked via online video call, which can put you in contact with a trusted face in the local area – usually a senior advisor from your local Gateway centre.
These senior advisors can provide support regarding council tax, business rates and benefits and can also put you in touch with a range of services that are there to help like housing, health and wellbeing. These online sessions were set up during the pandemic, but due to their popularity – they were kept running.
The video below shows examples of the people that BetterOff’s coffee and chat mornings have helped, what services they offer as well as some of their partners:
The website also contained some customer feedback, including 52 year old John: “Being in and out of work as an agency worker meant I couldn’t claim benefits and it’s been difficult to budget. I just buried my head in the sand. I feel great now I have sorted something out. I should have done it sooner. Thank you!”
Another customer, 28 year old Sharon touched on her fear of the bailiffs and the effect it would have on her son, said: “I could cry I am that relieved I don’t have to contend with the bailiff. Now I can let my son play out in the garden and not be looking over my shoulder.”
Finally, 66 year old Dawn closed out by saying how helpful BetterOff’s support had been, saying: “I am so grateful for your help. I will sleep tonight.”
More support can be gained via the Spirit of Salford helpline on 0800 952 1000 or also by completing this online form.
