An ex-Salford University student re-launched her infamous Jungle club night ‘Squiggle Dee Mash’ last Friday night.

OttilIa Ordog, 44, brought the event to the streets of Manchester after 20 years, having first launched it in 1998 while studying Media and Performance at Salford University.

Ms Ordog said: “It felt like the right time to bring Squiggle Dee Mash back because I was missing a lot of the people I met during my time at Salford University.

“My time at University totally inspired me to do Squiggle Dee Mash the way I did it, a lot of Salford students participated in the whole organising of the event.

“It was meant to be a one-off event but after the response from everyone at the event on Friday night and all the pioneers of Jungle in Manchester, there will be one on the horizon.”

Squiggle Dee Mash travelled all over the Greater Manchester club scene throughout its infamous four-year reign, taking over venues such as: K2, Club Havana, UMIST Underground and Generation X.

The unusual name for the event came from Ottilia’s own interpretation of the sound of Drum and Bass and Jungle.

Ottilia added: “There used to be a lot of negative stereotypes surrounding drum and bass and jungle I wanted to show that you could have a fun night without any trouble.

“Squiggle Dee Mash was about drawing a fun-loving, music-loving crowd who didn’t take themselves too seriously – hence the name.”
