A Salford charity has launched its first clothing appeal to help support people in the community experiencing poverty.
The Caritas Diocese of Salford is asking people to donate their unwanted clean clothes to help people who are faced with homelessness, poverty and discrimination in the city.
Claire Briscoe, communications manager at Caritas Salford said: “We are hoping that it is a really simple way that people can tidy up, clear a bit of space in their cupboards but also know that it’s going to a really good cause.”
“We are expecting to see more people experiencing homelessness and more people experiencing poverty so demand for our services is growing.”
Caritas Salford runs a range of services and events all year round to help people who are or could be made homeless.
Patrick O’Dowd, director of Caritas Salford said: “It’s a really challenging time for everyone now, with the cost-of-living crisis meaning more people than ever needing to access our services locally. Demand has arguably never been higher.
O’Dowd said: “At this time of year, as the seasons change, many people are having a clear out and are looking to tidy their wardrobes before the winter weather draws in.
“We’d love them to consider donating their unwanted clothes to us this year.”
Clothing can be donated at the charity’s Caritas House building in Collyhurst from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm Tuesday to Friday: Caritas House, Nobby Stiles Drive, Collyhurst, Manchester, M4 4FA.
