Lionesses FA Cup

Salford City football fans have been banned from future games after causing a disturbance on the pitch during a game.

Three banning orders have been issued following the club’s home game against Grimsby Town on October 1.

An eye-witness at the match said that the pitch invaders appeared to be youths who entered the field of play during the second half of the Grimsby match.

The club has since issued a statement, saying:  “Two (banning orders) have been issued for pitch incursion, and one for anti-social behaviour.”

“If you see or hear anything that worries or concerns you at the Peninsula Stadium, we have an anonymous matchday hotline number that you can contact to report any issues.

“Call on text the number [available at the ground] with the location and nature of your concern and the club will respond accordingly.”

The incidents at the Peninsula Stadium come after a recent government report on football related arrests and banning orders found that: “Arrests in the latest season (2021-22) were around 59% higher than those in the 2018 to 2019 football season.”

The report also mentioned: “The 2021 to 2022 football season was the first full season where all scheduled matches in England and Wales were played at full spectator capacity following the COVID-19 pandemic.”
