A war memorial for Salfordians who died in service after 1945 is set to be unveiled in November.
The event will be held at Salford Cenotaph on November 1st at 11am.
Glenn Croston, who served in the army from 1980-89, has helped to track down 26 families of those set to be remembered.
He said: “If you look at all the memorials across Salford, you will find only one post-1945 serviceman remembered. The other 28 have not been remembered in a public place so we want to update it and put them all in one place.
“On the 1st of November we will have righted a wrong, because I think it was wrong that whenever people have said ‘I want my husband or father or brother to be added to a memorial’ they were told no because the memorial ends in 1945.”
Salford City Council promised the memorial nearly a decade ago, which is when Glenn became involved.
He has tracked down relatives of the servicemen through social media sites such as Facebook and is hoping to make contact with the final three families before the unveiling next month.
The 14ft wall will have 29 individual placards beneath a header to explain their significance.
However, it has only been passed as a temporary measure as they are unsure if local development plans will affect the memorial’s placement.
In response to this, Glenn said: “At the end of the day, a memorial is still a memorial and is a place families and friends will be able to come and see their loved one’s names on a wall.
“Anybody is welcome to come along and watch the memorial be unveiled.”
