A University of Salford Masters student has opened a new vinyl event at Brew-Tang Coffee House.
Named ‘Vinyl Digging’, James Parrish created the event after spending countless hours digging around car boot sales and charity shops in order to create a collection of vinyls spanning decades.
James and his friend Charlie played their debut show last weekend for coffee and music lovers. Customers were able to relax and listen to their set, or purchase the vinyls on sale, if they were more interested in other kinds of music.
James said: “I’ve basically hijacked a community around here, trying to create a nice community around creators.”
The coffee shop owner, Aidan Dewhurst believes the event will attract more customers in and persuade them to stay for longer.
Aidan said: “Music like this has a big effect on people studying and relaxing and staying in establishments for longer and spending money.”
With the coffee shop having to have been closed for 8 months during Covid, just after the grand opening in February 2020, Brew-Tang is still trying to get back on their feet with live music, as the industry still has not fully recovered.
Aidan has to take on part time work at Salford University as a receptionist in order to afford to run his business, so he is hoping that this business venture will bring people through the door.
And it seems like people are enjoying it, with customers describing the café as “relaxed, friendly environment.”
The event takes place on the first Saturday of every month.
