Musician Granfalloon is playing live at Salford pub The Eagle Inn for the finale of his new album tour.
Sing-songwriter, Richard Lomax, created the stage-name Granfalloon in 2017 and continues to write and perform positive songs focussing on traditional songwriting but “not quite traditional storytelling to chisel out small, beautiful moments”.
The new album, Calendar, is the first volume of a set that was written over the course of a year and will be the focus of the gig at The Eagle on Friday October 14.
He said: “My album, Calendar, is originally from a project where I set myself the challenge to write a new song every week in one year, so by the end of the year I ended up with 52 pieces of music.”
The musician, whose first inspiration to create music came when he was only 17, has chosen the well loved Salford pub for its great acoustics.
He added: “It’s probably my favourite sounding small venue. I’ve been to a lot of gigs there over the years and there’s something about that room that things just sound great in there.
“Given the choice, I’d actually like to record an album in there because I just think it’s such a lovely sounding room, it’s just got a real nice vibe to the place.”
His first time getting into music was after joining a social club at the hospital, where he also worked as a porter. He continued: “The hospital had a social club on the premises, which was the only place we could go, and drink and we would sneak into [my friend’s] garage to drink his dad’s beers and discuss music. I think that might have been the first time getting into music.”
Granfalloon is already planning volume two which will include the second set from the 52-song collection.
Tickets are available to purchase for the album launch here.
