Rugby players with learning or physical impairments are being offered the chance to develop their skills with Salford Red Devils Foundation.
The foundation hosted a session this week for the Learning / Physical Disability Rugby League as part of Three Lions Week, an initiative aimed at inspiring people from all walks of life to get into rugby, ahead of this November’s World Cup.
Learning Disability Rugby League / Physical Disability Rugby League was established around five years ago and offers playing opportunities to people with complex needs.
This year’s tournament is already billed as the sport’s most inclusive ever with the men’s, women’s and wheelchair tournament all being played at the same time.
Three Lions Week has seen clubs around the country host activities and matches, with high-profile players, such as Adrian Morley, getting involved. He said: “I’m supporting Salford Foundation for Three Lions Week – it’s to get everyone inspired about the sport ahead of the World Cup.
“It’s such an inclusive sport – we’ve got the physical disability, learning disability, the women’s, veterans. These are all sessions running this week as part of Three Lions Week.
“Home World Cup is a huge opportunity for Rugby League – the men’s, women’s and wheelchair all played are all played at the same time, it’s going to leave a huge legacy.”
Morley discussed how proud he was to support his hometown’s initiative. He followed: “I’m a very proud Salford lad – to still be involved in the club and a Trustee of the Foundation, they do so much great stuff in the community and I’m really enjoying it.
“Community rugby league is how I got my opportunity as a kid – there’s more people playing rugby league now than ever before – it’s fantastic.”
