Salford Gran, Linda Ryan, is undertaking a swimming marathon to raise money for a children’s charity.
The 71-year-old is aiming to swim 400 lengths at Broughton Swimming Pool in October in aid of Brainwave to marks its 40th anniversary.
The grandmother, a keen swimmer since childhood, has previously taught her grandson Thomas to swim.
She said: “Brainwave is a fantastic charity that I’ve been supporting as a volunteer for several years so now I’m delighted to take part in this challenge and raise as much money as I can for their 40th anniversary challenge.”
Brainwave supports children with various conditions including cerebral palsy, autism, developmental delay, sensory processing difficulties and Down’s syndrome. The charity also supports children with no official diagnosis and can assist families in accessing its services through a means-tested fund.
Keith Sinclair, CEO at Brainwave, said: “We’re all so impressed with Linda’s challenge and wish her all the best with this fantastic swimming effort.
“This year is very special to us as it marks our 40th year helping children across the UK to achieve their potential. We’re hoping by the end of the year to raise £40,000 to fund a full time speech and language therapist to join our team.”
