The General Store shop on New Bailey Street has closed its doors in a restructuring of the business, caused by the recent economic pressures.
Mital Morar, Owner of the General Store, said to Manchester Evening News: “After exceptionally difficult trading conditions throughout the past two years, the addition of the latest economic pressures in 2022, including the energy crisis, have led us to implement a major restructure of the business in order to protect jobs and continue to trade.”
The other general stores in Deansgate, Ancoats, Media City and Moss side will remain open.
Speaking at the location of the closed Salford shop today, a local resident said: “I do come here now and again but not often, and I have noticed quite a lot of shops around here are closing, smaller businesses.”
Mital Morar added: “We have been working hard throughout what has been a very difficult period for the business to ensure that all of our other sites remain open and we are grateful that none of our hard working colleagues have been affected.”
In May, the General Store came to Media City but this closing proves that even the bigger shops are having to make sacrifices to comfortably stay afloat within this financial crisis.
