Wagamama will be offering free katsu curries to the first 50 students to walk through the door.
The Japanese food chain, with a site located in Media City, are offering free chicken, Yatsu and hot and vegan Katsu Curries to 50 students between 3pm and 5pm today.
Whilst the government have pledged to ensure that from September 2022 the interest rate on student loans will be capped at 6.5%, the cost-of-living crisis has severely impacted students.
Accommodation, bills, food, and the hospitality have all reached a spike in prices, meaning it is likely for many UK industries to experience the outcomes.
Wagamama employee Sammy shared what the Salford students should expect in stores on the day. They said: “This month it’s National Katsu Day, so we just pick a day in the week to celebrate. We’re doing it between three and five and any students that come showing student ID can get a free chicken Katsu…
“I’ve never done a katsu curry day before, but I’ve heard that they are quite busy…we sell hundreds a day, eating in and taking out.”
With Katsu Curry being the most popular item on the menu, the company have no doubt they will sell out shortly.
Sammy also touched on the importance of reaching out to students during this time. They continued: “Students are one of our main target audiences, like around that age group and everyone likes a Chicken Katsu so it’s the best way to get people in really.”
The campaign is being promoted by Wagamama ambassadors across the UK to sign up to ‘Noodle Union’. Alongside competitions, the campaign gives students the chance to win golden chopsticks and a £300 Wagamama voucher.
