Salford Royal’s Renal Department has seen doctors and nurses sporting a pink hair and pink clothing look.
The look was shared on Facebook in a bid to support Nation organ Donation Week, this week.
Salford Care organisation said on their Facebook: “During a challenging year, 21 consenting donors resulted in Salford Royal facilitating 16 solid organ donors and 40 patients receiving a transplant between 2021/22.”
Two residents of Salford commented their opinions on organ donation. Kevin Jones said: “If you can help someone you should, I haven’t been in the position to donate yet but if it came to it I would.”
Another resident, Michael said: “I’m all for organ donation, I’m an organ donor myself.”
In May 2020 the UK law surrounding organ donation was changed from an ‘opt-in’ service, to ‘opt-out’. This means all UK residents over-18 are now automatically signed into organ donation, unless in an exempt group.
One challenge for organ donation week is the Race for Recipients. People from Salford and around the UK are being encouraged to form groups, wear pink and share their race for recipients journey raising awareness for 7000 patients waiting, 5000 lives saved.
As we start #OrganDonationWeek, our ambassadors explain how rewarding it is to register to become an organ donor. You could help seriously ill people waiting for a transplant at the end of your life.
