Salford City Council is helping young people in Salford gain employment and increase their employability with their Salford Futures scheme.

The scheme intends to bring traineeships to people aged 16 to 24 who have not yet received a level 3 qualification.

Work placements are also on offer to all residents of Salford who are over the age of 16.

Work placements will take place in a range of industries including:

  • Digital and creative industries
  • Business administration
  • Retail
  • Customer service
  • Health and social care
  • Childcare
  • Horticulture
  • Catering

Here is what to expect from traineeships:

Traineeships will run for approximately 12 to 16 weeks.

There will be classroom based sessions for two days per week, from 9.30am to 3.30pm, to develop employability and functional skills, where required.

Trainees will also be given a work experience placement – two days a week; with the start and end time to be stipulated by host work experience manager.

Candidates not currently claiming benefits will be able to access a training allowance of up to £40 per week; in addition to the 16 to 19 bursary where eligible.

Trainees may be eligible for free bus travel and also have the chance to receive up to £100 in LOVE2SHOP vouchers (Subject to 95% or more attendance).

Breakfast and a free lunch is also available.

Those who take part can gain qualifications in:

  • Level 1 – Customer service
  • Level 1 – Employability skills
  • Level 1 – Business administration
  • Level 1 – Horticulture
  • Level 1 – ICT
  • Functional Skills – English and Maths
