Wood Street Mission is calling for donations of books for their Books Forever appeal.
The charity is aiming to distribute books to the children of Greater Manchester through their “book roadshow” events.
The Wood Street Mission website explains:
“Our Books Forever project runs throughout the year, collecting book donations and distributing them through our Family Basics programme and Book Roadshows.
“We organise Book Roadshow events at local schools throughout the year to distribute free books to children, allowing them to take books home to keep.
“Children get to take home a bag full of books of their own at the end of the day.
“Our Book Roadshows aim to inspire a love of reading, encourage families to read together and help improve literacy skills.
“We will continue to welcome donations of good quality pre-loved books the rest of the year, following the Appeal.”
We love books! Thankfully you do too and your donations for our latest #BooksForeverAppeal are simply wonderful, thank you.
Our Appeal is ongoing until 14th April and we would really appreciate your support. Thanks everyone. https://t.co/VGknjzHFVr #Manchester #Salford #Poverty pic.twitter.com/UzwEXKnL6V— Wood Street Mission (@WoodSt_Mission) March 9, 2022
The Wood Street Mission understands that low income families can struggle to afford new books for their children.
Another issue is the fact that many low income families do not live near libraries.
The Books Forever appeal aims to counter this by bringing books directly to the children who need them.
Wood Street Mission is aiming to have all their donations from the public by Thursday 14th April.
You can find a wishlist of books for different age brackets below, these books are the charity’s most sought-after books broken down by age group.
Donations of new books for children aged 0-16 years – both fiction and non-fiction –can be dropped off directly to 26 Wood Street, Manchester, M3 3EF.
Alternatively, the public can order the books directly to the charity from their chosen online retailer.
You can make a financial donation securely online or set up a fundraising page here.
Wood Street Mission encourages the public to share the #BooksForeverAppeal hashtag on social media, in order to promote the appeal.
