The Red Devils broke their three-game losing streak in the league last week, with a 26-12 victory over Leeds Rhinos on Friday the 18th of March. From their first six games they have won three and lost three, leaving them sitting in the middle of the table for this fixture.
Wigan Warriors are in good form, winning four of their last five matches, losing embarrassingly 28-0 away against Catalans Dragons on Saturday the 12th of March.
Salford Red Devils currently sit in 7th in the Super League on six points, four points off leaders St Helens, who are one of three teams to have won five and lost one in the league so far.
Wigan Warriors are one of those teams, even in spite of their drubbing 2nd place Catalans Dragons.
The two sides are yet to meet in the league this season, meaning this Challenge Cup fixture will be the first time that these two teams will face each other in this campaign.
The tie comes at an awkward time for the Red Devils, as it arrives shortly after the postponement to the 2023/24 football league season of the club’s proposed stadium swap with Salford City’s Peninsula Stadium.
