Salford City has confirmed in an official statement that the club will remain at The Peninsula Stadium for the 2022/23 season.
This is after speculation that the football club would undergo a stadium swap with Rugby League team, Salford Red Devils, which would see Red Devils take over The Peninsula Stadium at Moor Lane.
In spite of this, the club is still ‘optimistic’ that a deal will be done, saying: “in principle things are agreed, there are just some particulars that still need working out in the respect of the future of Salford Red Devils.
“…As things stand we are hopeful of being at the AJ Bell for the 2023-24 season.”
Sale Sharks and Salford Red Devils are yet to officially comment on their news feeds so far.
The Peninsula Stadium has been the home of Salford City since 1978 and was formerly known as Moor Lane before the sponsorship deal.
The stadium was their home during their meteoric rise from the Northern Premier League Division One to League Two in the space of just five years, housing four promotions.
Salford Red Devils’ deal with the AJ Bell expires in 2023 which is the driving force behind the swap, with Salford City planning to share the ground with Sale Sharks Rugby – who currently own the stadium.
It is understood that Sale Sharks plan to increase the rent at the AJ Bell from £150,000 to £650,000 for the 2022/23 season, a figure that Red Devils may not be able to afford.
