Salford Red Devils were defeated 16-26 at the hands of Hull KR, despite a second half fight-back at the AJ Bell Stadium on Friday night.
In their second home game of the Super League season, Paul Rowley’s Salford were unable to produce a victory for their supporters.
Despite a valiant effort to put things right in the second half, the Red Devils were defeated 16-26 after a sluggish performance in the first 40 minutes.
The Red Devils found themselves 18-0 down at the break as Hull KR star man Jordan Abdull made no mistake in converting all three of Rovers’ first half tries.
Head coach Paul Rowley was displeased with Salford’s defending in the first 40 minutes. He admitted: “We got rolled pretty easily. Lazy and soft defence, I can’t dress it up, that’s what it is really.”
The first score from the visitors arrived through Elliott Minchella who grounded the ball after Salford had spilled it on their own try-line.
Matthew Storton bagged the vistors’ second before Mikey Lewis cleverly latched onto his own kick over the top of the Salford defence and grounded the ball for the away side’s third.
Salford burst out of the blocks in the second half, determined to put things right. They got themselves on the scoreboard through Ken Sio, as one of this season’s top scorers in the Super League finished in the corner.
The Red Devils scored again through Australian second-row Shane Wright.
A sensational third try for Salford put the hosts well and truly back in the game when Marc Sneyd mesmerised the Rovers defence, setting up Joe Burgess who simply finished the move off.

Hull KR put themselves back in the driving seat, albeit against the run of play, as Lewis scored his second of the game, much to the delight of the noisy away contingent.
It is back to the drawing board for Salford, who have now won two of their first five Super League games. They currently sit in eighth place in the table, with Rowley aware of the challenging task ahead, saying: “We’ve got to continue to work hard.”
Salford Red Devils are back at home next Friday night, as they welcome Leeds Rhinos to the AJ Bell Stadium.
