A 17-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is now in custody.
In a statement read by Assistant Chief Constable Tony Creely earlier today, it was confirmed that an arrest had been made following the discovery of a body in Clowes Park.
Assistant Chief Constable Creely also said: “On behalf of the investigation team, who are in Salford completing extensive enquiries, I appeal to anyone with information to contact us or Crimestoppers, anonymously.
“Also, I ask those surrounding Clowes Park to check any CCTV or doorbell footage they have.
“On behalf of Greater Manchester Police, I would like to say, publicly, that our thoughts are with the loved ones of the victim of this stabbing.
The ACC went on to mention the similarities between this case and the recent death of Kennie Carter in Trafford:
“This incident closely follows the fatal stabbing of Kennie Carter in the Stretford area of Trafford last weekend and we, as a force, are aware and understand that our communities are concerned.
“I would therefore like to reiterate the Chief Constable’s promise to Greater Manchester that GMP is a force which focuses on fighting, preventing, and reducing crime to keep people safe.
“Fighting knife crime is a top priority and I would briefly like to highlight some of the work our officers and staff are doing.
• Engaging with young people and their families via specialist engagement officers – encouraging a culture of reporting amongst both peers and family members
• Continuing patrols and stop and searches under our dedicated operation – Sycamore. These patrols focus on areas of concern identified by us and communities.
• Providing a platform via our Forever Amnesty for weapons to be surrendered – since the launch in 2020, we’ve recovered over 3500 knives via 13 bins across Greater Manchester
“Finally, I would like to put it on record that GMP will not tolerate knife crime – we are committed to carrying out thorough investigations which identify those responsible and ensure they face justice.”
Anyone with information, or video footage including mobile phone, CCTV or doorbell footage, should contact police on 0161 856 0055 or 101 quoting incident 854 of 30/01/22.
