This November the Winter Tavern at The Black Friar opened for the winter season where you can stay away from the chilly Manchester nights with “fires, frolics and feasting”.

Located on Blackfriars Road you will find the lovely genteel tavern with outdoor seating on the corner of the crossroads.

After easily booking online, reporter Evie Carysforth and her mother made their way to the tavern and it did not disappoint.

On arrival you are greeted by their lovely staff who take you outside, where the Winter Tavern is located.

Once inside, it is like being transported to a medieval winter, the tavern is a little slice of Middle England history with the sparkling lights, glittering candles and roaring fires, rugs and fur.

Evie decided to try The Blackfriars Burger which cost £18 and consisted of a poppy and sesame seed brioche bun, red onion marmalade, blue cheese mayo, roquette and fries.

The staff were very accommodating, and we did not wait long for food and drinks, even though the tavern was extremely busy.

It became apparent very quickly why this tavern is so popular, the atmosphere was spectacular and feels especially festive.

The burger was cooked to perfection, very juicy and succulent, the accompanying elements also adding to the overall meal.

The fries were also salted and cooked to perfection; the skin-on fries were crunchy yet fluffy on the inside.

Evie also tried a dessert: a Sticky Toffee Pudding which cost £9 and consisted of date ice cream and toffee sauce.

The dessert was delicious and not too overpowering.

Overall, the atmosphere and food in this establishment are a force to reckon with this winter.

However, do not just take my word for it, some Google reviews say: “Great English restaurant with authentic ambiance. Creative menu and helpful staff. Not too expensive either.”

Another added: “Worth it, worth it, worth it! For all the right reasons. Keep on the good work, well done and it only makes me feel happier for moving into Salford.”

Being within walking distance of the City Centre is perfect for anybody trying to get into the festive spirit or those who just want a quieter area to go and get dinner after the busyness of the Centre.

Overall rating – 4.25/5
