Salford City Lioness Safron Newhouse says the entire team has been ‘working hard’ ahead of their WFA cup second round clash with Newcastle United.

Newhouse, who opened the scoring in the previous round, said: “The build-up to the game has been great.

“We are all excited to be apart of this opportunity and have been working hard in training to get the result we want this weekend.”

Newhouse has scored seven goals in six games so far this season so the City forward will be keen to get on the scoresheet against the formidable Newcastle defence who have only conceded six goals all season whilst scoring 29.

The Lionesses gained passage to the second round following a comprehensive 4-0 home victory against Alnwick Town.

The Toon were also victors by four goals in the previous round, as they triumphed 5-1 against Harrogate Town.

The Lionesses currently sit fifth in the league however have four games in hand on the league leaders, with the Lionesses getting four wins out of five so far.

Newcastle come into the match of the back of a 7-0 win against Blyth Town at the weekend as they sit second in the Division 1 North of the FA Women’s National League.

Salford City are clear underdogs in the tie as they sit lower in the footballing pyramid than the visitors from Tyneside, but the home advantage could play a major role with number of fans at The Peninsular expected to be increased due to the free admission.

Line-up used by Nathan Soulby in previous round:

Kick-off is at 1pm however fans should arrive well before to get their free ticket to help roar on the Lionesses to what would be a historic victory.
