A Salford night of soul and Motown hits, ’80s covers and a musical ‘Boogie Bingo’, will raise cash for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Showtime Live (previously known as Motown Live) is hosting a 3-in-1 fundraising event for Macmillan Cancer Support at The Lower Kersal Social Club this Saturday.

Organsiers Peter Grimshaw and Paul Hunter were inspired to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, after both losing their parents to cancer, and realising that, whilst they had the support of their family through this, many people in similar situations do not.

Mr Grimshaw said: “That’s where we feel Macmillan is absolutely vital to our community. Nobody should suffer alone.”

Macmillan Cancer Support support millions of people affected by cancer every year.

In 2019, the charity estimates 1.9 million people received personal (face-to-face and online) support from Macmillan, and a further 7 million people were supported by their online resources.

Since 2016, Showtime Live has raised more than £35,000 for Macmillan in Greater Manchester.

He said: “Due to Covid and limited opportunity to host events since 2020, we’ve not been able to raise much in this time… but we’re hopeful we can raise a good amount this weekend”.

The live performance section of the event will feature multi tribute artiste Melissa T, who will cover songs from well-loved 80s artists, including Madonna, Whitney Houston and Cyndi Lauper.

Melissa T is most renowned for her performances as a Taylor Swift tribute act, but also impersonates Ariana Grande and Dua Lipa among other pop artists, as well as doing 80s and 90s inspired shows.

What’s On Salford called a previous Showtime Live event “the ultimate night out in Salford”, and Showtime Live has declared itself “Salford’s biggest event”.
