Salford Red Devils have announced that they will be launching a new women’s team from next season.
The Super League club currently boasts a range of junior girls teams, but this will be the first time an open age team will represent the Red Devils.
The team will be run by the Salford Red Devils Foundation and will sit above the existing dual development pathway to become the pinnacle of girls rugby at the club.

Salford Red Devils Foundation Director Neil Blackburn has explained his delight at launching the new team.
He said: “We have been developing our girls programme over the last couple of years to run alongside our rising stars programme and with our College Development academy being a dual pathway, now is the perfect time to launch our Women’s Team.
“We are extremely excited to be able to launch the first Salford Red Devils Women’s team that will now give the opportunity for women to represent Salford Red Devils at the highest level.”
The club has wasted no time in appointing a head coach for the team with former Lancashire Women’s head coach Marc Simon appointed.
A former coach at both Warrington and Widnes, Simon boasts over 20 years experience of coaching, with the last decade being involved in the women’s game, and now has the chance to lead the Red Devils.
He said: “I am looking forward to working with such a well-respected club, that not only has that family feel, but holds its fans in such high regard.
“I look forward to creating a club which drives women’s rugby within Salford forward and has a positive atmosphere that players will thrive in. I can’t wait to get started.”
It is an opportunity for women across clubs in Salford to represent their home city, with people taking to social media to express their delight at the news.
