Salford City follow up on their 0-0 draw against second-placed Cheltenham Town with another challenging game against league leaders Newport County tonight at 19:00.
The packed League Two league schedule continues as the Ammies host Newport who are flying-high at the top of Sky Bet League Two.
Newport have already gotten the better of Salford once this season when they knocked them out of the FA Cup second round, progressing into the third round where they face Premier League Brighton.
Salford’s visitors are also in good league form having lost just once in their last 5 league games.
However, the encouragement for Salford’s manager Richie Wellens will be that Newport’s defeat came in their last league game at the weekend to Leyton Orient.
Wellens will also have been encouraged by his side’s performance at the weekend, matching high-flying Cheltenham Town for the whole 90 minutes despite being up against last season’s play-off semi-finalists.
It was also a second clean sheet in a row which is a basis for Salford to now grow from as they look to add more goals to their game.

A win for Salford this evening could see them move as high as sixth-place if results go their way.
As for Newport County, a win would see them stay top of the table as they look to continue their march towards promotion to League One.

Wellens has been at Salford long enough now to start to get his attacking style across and so you would expect there to be some expectation on him from the fans to provide Salford with the consistent results they have been lacking all season.
A victory against top of the table Newport is no easy task but it’s the kind of match Salford need to be winning if they are serious about their promotion aspirations this season.
