On December 8th, Salford City will be playing at home to Leicester City’s Under-21s in the first knockout round of the EFL trophy, with a place in the last 16 of the competition.

Last season, Salford City’s performance was looking promising as they were set to play Portsmouth in the postponed final, so the Ammies will be looking to replicate this feat in this season’s competition.

The team have played well recently, with recent wins including 3-0 over Bradford City on 21st November, and then this past Saturday when they defeated Barrow 0-1.

It was midfielder Luke Burgess’ outstanding performance against Bradford City that lead to their win, with him scoring two amazing goals. Fans will be hoping to see a similar performance on Tuesday night.

Other team hopefuls are Ian Henderson and Ashley Hunter, who have both scored six goals this season with four and three successful assists respectfully.

Despite their decent form, they have suffered some tough blows from teams teams higher in the league table.

With Salford sitting at a respectable seventh place in League Two, they suffered a shocking 3-0 defeat against Newport County on 28th November. Although Newport County are third in the table and two points ahead.

Leicester City u21s did make good progress in the EFL trophy competition last season and managed to get to the quarter-finals, before losing 1-0 to the aforementioned Newport County.

Followers of Salford City are anticipating a win tomorrow, and will be hoping to see their beloved team reach the next stage of the Papa John’s trophy.
