Salford is witnessing panic buying in the midst of the Coronavirus UK outbreak.
Tesco Extra in Salford currently has multiple bare shelves, with some fearing Italy type lock down and self isolation.
The affected products include bulk packs of toilet roll, Yorkshire Tea and beans, as well as soap, pasta and rice.
Bottles of soap are currently limited to five bottles per customer in Tesco to ensure everybody has access.
Despite this, the reaction from Salford showed a different attitude, with only one woman saying she felt “you should get a few bits in”.
One shopper said: “I think I can understand if you’re gonna get tied to your house but that’s not mentioned yet is it really?
“I have health issues, lung complaints and I don’t see the point of stock piling, not yet anyway.”
Another shopper said: “If you get the virus, you get it, that’s it, end of story. You don’t have to go through the extremes of that.”
As of 10 March 2020 there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Salford, with 319 confirmed cases across the rest of the UK.
Today a sixth person in the UK, a man in his 80s, has died from the virus.
This news comes as Italy has forbidden public gatherings in an effort to combat the virus.
