Round five of the Super League comes this weekend, as Salford Red Devils host Wakefield Trinity at the AJ Bell stadium.
After last weekend’s disappointing 22-8 loss to Leeds Rhinos, the Red Devils have now lost three out of their first four games of the 2020 Super League season.
Saturday’s loss also meant the Reds have tasted defeat in their last two home games, making a win on Sunday at the AJ Bell even more important to end the run before it gets worse.
There is speculation who Watson will name in his match-day squad for the Wakefield game, with both Josh Johnson and Dan Sarginson forced to miss the Leeds game due to knocks.
Krisnan Inu and Luke Yates had to leave the pitch after picking up injuries in the first 20 minutes of the clash with Leeds.
On top of that, half-back Kevin Brown still has one more game to serve from his two-match ban for a headbutt in the Reds’ defeat to Huddersfield Giants.
Over in West Yorkshire, Wakefield Trinity have also been plagued with injury, which worsened last Saturday in their 32-15 away loss to Castleford Tigers.
Wakefield centre, Joe Arundel, will miss the remainder of the season with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, and utility back, Jack Hampshire, will be out of the squad for at least six weeks after fracturing his jaw.
Recording just the one victory as well so far this season, an 18-8 home win over the 2019 Challenge Cup winners, Warrington Wolves, Wakefield will also be going into Sunday’s match hoping to speed up their slow start to the 2020 campaign.
The last time the two teams clashed, the Red Devils came out 44-20 winners at the AJ Bell in June last year.
With both teams riddled with injuries, a closer scoreline will be expected as neither side will be able to put out their strongest outfits.
Salford currently sit tenth in the Super League table, level on points with Wakefield who are one step up in ninth due to points difference.
If other results go their way, a win for either team would bump them up the table to fourth, a spot currently occupied by St. Helens, 2019’s Super League winners.
The game between Salford Red Devils and Wakefield Trinity will kick off at 3.00pm on Sunday 1st March at the AJ Bell, with more details available here.
