The 10,000th episode of Corrie will air next week.
The episode will focus on fan favourite Rita Tanner who is shocked when she receives the ashes of her ex husband Dennis, attached with a note which requests that she scatters them in Blackpool.
After Rita asks Jenny Connor and Ken Barlow to accompany her on the trip, they organise a coach trip to Blackpool with many of the streets residents joining them.
Many of the shows most famous faces will be included in the episode including Salford born Kate Ford who has played Tracy Barlow since 2002.

Coronation Street’s producer Iain MacLeod commented on the episode: “I watched this landmark episode with absolute glee. It is uniquely Corrie: funny, poignant and characterful- and a glorious homage to the comedic charabanc trips of times past, packed with strong female characters and sparkling dialogue. It’s a really great exhibition of Coronation Street’s classic qualities as we start a new decade on the cobbles.”
The episode won’t go without its usual share of drama however as the coach trip goes wrong and it looks like the characters won’t make it to Blackpool after all. Secrets are shared and tensions rise whilst the characters reflect on their time on the street.
It has been confirmed that one of the street’s residents will decide to leave the street by the end of the episode though ITV are not confirming who that will be.
Coronation Street was created by Salford’s own Tony Warren in 1960, the programme will celebrate its 60th anniversary this December. It’s not the first time that the show is marking it’s landmarks with special episodes, the 40th and 50th anniversary episodes were both live.
On the subject of reaching this milestone, MacLeod said: “10,000 episodes! Not bad for a programme which one newspaper said in 1960 was ‘doomed from the outset.”
It’s not just the special episodes that Corrie have to celebrate either as Peter Ash (Paul Foreman) and Katie McGlynn (Sinead Tinker) won Best Newcomer and Best Serial Drama Performance at the National Television Awards this week.
The hour long 10,000th episode will air on Friday 7th January at 7:30pm.
