The first win of 2020 sees Salford City through to the quarter finals of their debut campaign in the Leasing.com Trophy.
Manager Graham Alexander said that he was “really pleased” with how his team performed.
“we talked about a work ethic and this morning when were trained and sort of putting in that performance that the people of Salford and ourselves can relate to.
“When the quality was needed from a goal, we had it.
“[I was] really pleased with the players have come in that haven’t played as often as they’d like, and they’re physically looking after themselves and they gave us food for thought going into the league programme.”
Joining Salford in the quarter final are Exeter City, Portsmouth FC, Leicester City U21’s, Accrington Stanley and Newport County.
Two more fixtures are set to take place this evening to round off the group, with Bristol Rovers going against Stevenage, and Scunthorpe United taking on the Man City U21’s.
The draw is no longer being split into northern and southern sections, so anything could happen.
