Rail passengers in Salford faced major delays and cancellations last night amid a reported passenger disturbance at Manchester Victoria.
Trains heading to destinations including Blackpool, Swinton, Wigan, Leeds and Clitheroe were all affected by the disturbance, with disruption lasting late into the night.
In a Twitter update, train operator Northern said: “Due to passengers causing a disturbance on a train at Manchester Victoria some lines will be blocked.”

However, some Twitter users are suggesting that staff at Manchester Victoria have in fact walked out of the station in a display of solidarity with another staff member, who is alleged to have been physically assaulted by a passenger.
One Twitter user wrote: “All the Platform staff at #ManchesterVictoria have walked out due to one of the staff being threatened with Violence, Good to see the Workforce sticking together!”
Whilst many travellers are frustrated or angered by this apparent decision, there has been a visible display of support for those involved.
Nice one on the staff at Manchester Victoria. Real solidarity between colleagues.

Totally support the staff at Manchester Victoria. There's a terrible lack of empathy and human decency where fellow service industry employees are concerned.

Absolute full support the Manchester Victoria staff walking out over abuse to a staff member. Lucky to have such a strong team.
