A resident at Alderwood Care Home in Worsley will be turning 100 years old, and what better way to celebrate than receiving 100 birthday cards.
Edna Shenton, 99, will be reaching 100 years old on Christmas Eve and Alderwood would like to celebrate by collecting 100 birthday cards for her special day.
Tina Lowe, the activity coordinator at Alderwood, said: “We want to make really special and not about Christmas, but about her.”
She continued: “To live all that time and still be functioning and walking is brilliant.”
Tina advertised the 100 birthday cards appeal to the local Boothstown Facebook page asking for anyone to send in their birthday cards for Edna.
Edna will receive her letter from the Queen on 21 December and then party with her family the day after, where generations of the Shenton family will celebrate reaching this milestone at Alderwood.
Tina explained: “I want to make a big display of it. I want her to think ‘Wow how could I have 100 cards.’ To reach 100 cards off well-wishers plus family, friends and people in the home, it’ll go well over that.”
She also said: “Let’s celebrate that somebody has lived all that time and has lived through so much and to say ‘well done Edna and here is a special card’ Let’s get everybody to send her a card.”
If you would like to send Edna a 100th birthday card, send it to Alderwood Care Home, Simpson Road, Worsley, M28 1LT
