The £350 million Trafford Park Line Metrolink tram extension, which will connect Salford to the Trafford Centre, is set to open in early 2020 according to Transport for Greater Manchester.
The line, running from Pomona to the Trafford Centre, will give Salford residents easier access to the shopping centre, which was only accessible by car or bus previously.
Starting at Pomona, the line follows the Manchester Ship Canal, running parallel to MediaCityUK. It will weave behind the Imperial War Museum before heading over to the Trafford Centre.
Included in the project, there will be six new tram stops built – Wharfside, Imperial War Museum North, Village, Parkway, Event City before finishing up at Trafford Centre
The progress made is clear for all to see as the Wharfside station, as seen below, is nearing completion. This stop is near Manchester United Football Club which could ease the congestion on a match day as supporters make their way home.
A Transport for Greater Manchester spokesperson said: “Work on the Trafford Park Line extension is progressing well and we expect the line to open in the first half of 2020 as planned.”
