A new show, Time to Bloom, celebrating young carers previews in front of its first audience tonight at the Lowry.
The production is a collaboration between Salford Carers and physical theatre group, The Knotted Project, and has been created by 23 young carers aged between 11 and 19 years old with 12 of them taking part in the play.
It tells a story of a girl called Rose who tries to find happiness after the death of her mother amidst the pressures of school as well as caring for her father who struggles to cope.

The story has been created by young carers and comes from their own personal experiences.
Jenny Pilkington, Salford Young Carers team leader, was directly involved with the play and says: “It has been really emotional because there is so much of their own personal experiences in it.”
She also says that it has offered an opportunity for the young people to develop some acting skills and also that “it acts as a therapeutic experience.”
I’m so lucky to perform alongside these incredible people!

The show is part of an evening called the ‘Big Celebration’ which according to The Lowry’s website “will creatively showcase the journeys of many inspirational young people who have knocked down the barriers society has put in-front of them.”
There will be an eclectic mix of different works co-created by young people from The Lowry’s Targeted Programme and Youth Employability Scheme.
The show is on the 28 and 29 March and tickets are available now on the Lowry’s website.
