The Spirit of Salford Community Awards are inviting you to say thank you to the residents, community groups, volunteers and public servants working to improve local communities.
The awards aim to bring the diverse Salford citizens together, despite differences, and recognize their hard work.
Councillor Tracy Kelly, leader said: “Sometimes we talk about the negatives in our city, but we don’t talk about the positives, and there’s a lot of great things going on in our communities.
“This was a way of showcasing that.”
With the nominations process closed, the finalists will be announced on January 10th.
“We’ve got a number of nominations already, and we’ve got a judging panels that are made up of elected representatives, of our partners across the city, some of our volunteers across the city, so over the next few weeks we’ll be looking through those nominations and hopefully choosing our worthy winners.”
The diverse array of award categories include Volunteer of the Year, Good Neighbour of the Year, Best Environmental Improvement, Best Community Safety Project, and others.
The Spirit of Salford Community Awards also features three overall awards: Citizen of the Year, Community Group of the Year, and Public Servant of the Year.
“To some people it may just seem like it’s just another awards ceremony, but sometimes it’s difficult to showcase back to the citizens that we do recognize the hard work that everybody does within the city,” Councillor Kelly said.
“There’s always a need to bring people together”
After the finalists are announced, public voting will be open until March 1st.
The awards ceremony will take place on March 14th, 2019 at the AJ Bell Stadium.
Last month the Heart of Salford Awards were also hosted at the AJ Bell Stadium, celebrating inspirational people and organisations.
