Shortly before 3.50am in the morning on Saturday 24 November 2018, officers were called to an address on Edge Fold Crescent, Walkden, following a report of a fire.
Mr and Mrs. Walsh, a married couple in their 80’s, were rescued from the blaze by firefighters but sadly passed away at the scene.
A joint investigation between police and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service was underway, and the fire that started at early hours of the Saturday morning is not being treated as suspicious.
Lorraine Jackson-Davies commented on the Greater Manchester Police’s statement: “Aww God Bless them, how sad Rip and my thoughts are with family and friends, so sad.”
The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service stated that four fire engines were mobilised to Edge Fold Crescent, on November 24 and on arrival crews discovered a severe first floor fire in the property.
Ben Levy, Area Manager for Salford and Trafford said: “It’s a tragic incident and first and foremost our thoughts are with the families and friends of those involved.
“Crews worked in difficult conditions alongside colleagues from North West Ambulance Service but despite best efforts were unable to save the couple.
“It’s too early to determine a cause and fire investigators will be working closely with the police to find out what happened.
“At this stage there is nothing which suggests suspicious activity and we are treating the incident as an accident. Again, our hearts go out to the families and neighbours who are waking up to news of this terrible loss.”
