The second Manchester Invitational, a varsity match between Salford University Esports society and University of Manchester Esports society, takes place this weekend at MediaCityUK.
The varsity match will take centre stage at GameLab, part of Manchester Science festival.
Speaking to Salford Now about the event this weekend, Salford University Esports society said:
“The invitational is back this year, and it’s even bigger and better than last year. We’ll have a casted and live streamed tournament going on again, as well as an area where you can come along and try out esport titles.”
Last year the first Manchester Invitational took place at GameLab, it proved to be so popular that both Universities were invited back this year.
Anyone can come along to GameLab to watch the invitational for free which will be on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st October 2018 11am – 5pm.
Both Universities are also offering visitors the chance to try their hand at various of the esports on show over the weekend.
Following last year’s event, the Salford University Esports society hosted King of the North (the UK’s biggest student led gaming festival) back in March.
Esports have grown considerably in recent years and it’s predicted that nearly 600 million people will watch esports by 2020, therefore growing the UK revenue to £1 billion.
