Manchester Central end their league campaign in the Manchester Football League Division One with an away trip to Wilmslow Albion tonight.
Manager Paul McGuire’s side sit in second position in the table ahead of their final game, though other teams have games in hand.
Manchester Central are targeting a top three finish, and going up against second-bottom Wilmslow Albion they have a good opportunity to secure another three points and end the season with a healthy 42 point total.
In doing so, it would set the benchmark for third-placed Chadderton Reserves and fourth-placed Elton Vale, who play each other tonight, to try and surpass in their remaining games – both sides have played 18 of their 22 games so far, with 37 and 31 points respectively.
Manchester Central have had a successful league campaign, even going unbeaten in twelve games in all competitions – a stretch lasting four months – and have reached the final of the Murray Trophy against Tintwistle Athletic in May.
Cory Knight is top goalscorer for Manchester Central and will look to be a danger upfront for the away side, alongside Josh Frith who has found himself in the goals regularly in recent matches.
The last time the two sides met was in the reverse league fixture in October, when Manchester Central ran out 3-0 winners.
Knight netted a second-half brace in that game, after Mauro Mendes opened the scoring in the 35th minute.
Wilmslow ended the match with nine men too, after Malik Tabib and Tim Williams were both dismissed for each collecting a second yellow card.
