AT A SPEAKING conference, Escape Velocity: Growing Salford‘s Creative Economy organised by ResPublica, Paul Dennett spoke about the future of MediaCityUK.
Everyone at the conference spoke about the high hopes of Channel 4 coming to MediaCityUK, but they quickly dismissed the idea of them ever leaving London.
City of Salford Mayor Paul Dennett started off by congratulating Salford City Council for buying the land back in the 1980’s.
He then went on to say that: “Needless to say, we were on the front page of Manchester Evening News for committing public money to the acquisition of land and not necessarily of a positive sense.
“MediaCityUK is now the number one site in the UK for tech startups, beating even the City of London.
“MediaCityUK is unfinshed business, though we are creating our own economy and industrial ecosystem of digitail tech and creative businesses and start-ups.
“The jigsaw still remains incomplete if we were to reach our Escape Velocity.
“The point in which our local eco-system is completely self sustainable.”
The full speech of the Mayor’s speech is below.
The panelists and the Mayor are hoping to get an increase in industry growth in the North, as well as create 15,100 new jobs by 2025.
In the interview with Paul Dennett, he explains that Salford should be the default option when considering the relocation of other Government-backed institutions within the digital and creative sectors.
The panel concluded that each city in the North of England should identity their key advantages as a city and cooperate to ensure that they are not competing with each other.
