Salford City joint-manager Bernard Morley gave assurances to the club’s fans that they would always remain “family-orientated” regardless of success and promotions.
Morley, speaking at a press conference ahead of the FA Trophy game against Brackley, explained the importance the club placed on the local community and young fans despite their ambitious goals.
Morley said: “We will always keep Salford City a family-orientated club.
“I think that comes down to the players and the managers, what culture we create, and that’s the background me and [Anthony Johnson] were brought up in.”
Morley and Johnson experienced similar during their six years in charge of Ramsbottom United between 2009 and 2015.
He explained: “We were managing at Ramsbottom and it was a really family-orientated football club where I could bring my wife and my kids and they could play and go climb on the goals and they’d be allowed to go and do that.
“Obviously there is restrictions, you don’t want kids climbing on top of stands and what not, but they’re allowed to go and enjoy it.”
The fact the part-owners of the club, the Class of 92, have families themselves also impacts the club’s stance on remaining heavily family-orientated, Morley believes.
“I think with Salford, and Gary more than anyone, Gary is a family man and he understands that good footballers have kids and wives and Salford don’t ever want to take that out of what it is.”
He pointed to the recent developments around the stadium and activities that the club puts on for families and kids during match days.
“You can see behind the stands they’re putting bouncy castles on, so I don’t think they’ll ever try and come away from that family place.
“They want to keep it really family-orientated and hence the reason they’re investing in to family [activities] such as bouncy castles and face painting and whatsoever. I think they’re big on keeping that family-orientated place.”
