MANCHESTER restaurant, Yard and Coop, bring back their famous chicken giveaways to help raise money for a local homeless charity, Mustard Tree.
The Northern Quarter based restaurant has decided to put the buttermilk chicken that they are renowned for to good use this Wednesday, in a hope to help the homeless within the Manchester area.
Recent statistics released by homeless charity “Shelter” have shown that homelessness has increased by 33% in the past year and there are currently 4,428 people without a permanent home in the region.
A thousand portions of chicken will be being given away on Wednesday October 11 at the Edge Street restaurant as well as the collection of donations for the charity. The money raised on the day will be doubled by the restaurant.
Laura Morris, co-owner of the Yard and Coop said: “This year we wanted to do something involved around charity especially given that in our local community there is such a big homeless issue at the moment and there are lots of people needing help.
“Mustard Tree is in really close proximity to us, it’s literally just around the corner, and so we see some of the great work they do.
“Mustard Tree have lots of different assets to what they do: they have food banks, sell furniture; and create jobs as well, so they are a bit of an all-round, local organisation.

“This is the first time we have hooked up with them [Mustard Tree] in an event, so we are hoping to get a really good donation together for them. Anything that is given by the public and to the staff in tips and things like that we will double that as a business so that we can hopefully help them out.
“We are hoping to raise about £500, we think that is achievable, and I think there is quite a lot you can do with £500.”
To get your hands on a free piece of chicken and portion of chips from Yard and Coop head down tomorrow at any time between 12pm – 12am. All customers need to do is sign up to the Yard &
Coop database here or in the restaurant on the day.
