THIS October, Manchester welcomes back the fifth annual Women in Comedy Festival.
The festival celebrates the wealth of female comedic talent from across the international comedy scene, as well as showcase up and coming performers.
Founded by Dulcet Sounds’ Hazel O’Keefe in 2013, the event has evolved into an exhibition of amazing solo shows from the forefront of female comedy and will take over a host of venues across the city.
In the past, the success of the festival has attracted the attention of notable patrons including Bolton-born Maxine Peake, Lynne Parker, Jo Enright and Susan Calman.
After taking on the role, Peake said: “I’m proud to be supporting the UK Women in Comedy Festival – a festival filled with laughter combined with feminist principles taking place in the North… what’s not to support!”
This year’s top picks include panel show favourite Katherine Ryan, Luisa Omielan at the Frog and Bucket Comedy Club, Jo Enright and Sameena Zehra.
The Funny Women Awards will run alongside the Women in Comedy Festival, with the four heats of the competition taking place throughout the 10 days.
Women in Comedy is unfunded, and therefore relies on the generosity of volunteers, sponsors Laughology, media partners and the people of Manchester who continue to support it.
The launch event for the festival will take place on Thursday 19th October at the Frog and Bucket Comedy Club.
