GREATER MANCHESTER POLICE have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to after a woman had her handbag stolen in Bolton on Tuesday.
At around 6.30pm a woman was attempting to reverse her car in a car park on Trinity Way, when a man blocked her by parking close to her nearside.
The man, described as of stocky build with scruffy, blonde hair, got out of his car, opened the passenger door of the woman’s car and asked: “Am I in your way?”, before taking her handbag from the passenger seat and making off in his car.
Police were called shortly after 6.35pm and traced the mobile phone that was in the handbag to the Red 2 Black Snooker Hall on Coe Street, Bolton.
Officers spoke with staff at the hall and were told a different man had been there later that day and tried to sell the phone.
Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak with in connection with the incident.
Detective Constable Stuart Round, of GMP’s Bolton CID, said: “This was a disgusting crime where a mum was sat with her two children after finishing her weekly shop.
“This man had the audacity to act as though he was apologising for blocking her in the parking space but stole her handbag and drove off.
“I am appealing to anyone who recognises the man in the photo, or anyone who has any information, to please get in touch.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 and quote the reference number 1971 of 01/11/16, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
