LOCAL Netball team Manchester Thunder have been training with Super League Champions Wigan Warriors today at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester.
The session comes as a fun pre-season work out for both teams, with Thunder preparing for the 5th annual Mike Greenwood Trophy on 10th December at the Belle Vue Sports Village.
The Mike Greenwood Trophy is a commemoration to a man considered a legend in the Netball world.
After he retired from the Army in 1987, he set up Oldham Netball Club and coached Thunder and England U17’s and 19’s for several years before his death in 2011.
Manchester are three time-winners of the Trophy, losing to Team Bath in last year’s final by a close score line of 19-14.
The Warriors are preparing to defend their First Utility Super League title with warm-up games against Catalan Dragons and a Testimonial for Michael McIlorum against newly promoted Leigh Centurions on the 22nd of January.
The new Super League season kicks off on the second week of February, with the Cherry and Whites travelling to relegation survivors Salford Red Devils.
