A band of Santa’s little helpers is on hand at Manchester’s Arndale centre to wrap Christmas presents for shoppers and raise money for charity.

Customers can pay from £1 for wrapping in aid of Home Start, one of UK’s leading family support charities which is active in the city.

Volunteers help families with young children deal with the challenges they face, and they help more than 1,700 children who are struggling to cope and may be at crisis point.

Since 2008, the number of families relying on food banks has largely increased.

“We support parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children.”

The money raised by Manchester Arndale this year will be helping fund training for more volunteers to help more families across the city.

Manchester Arndale will also be taking on classic fundraising events such bake sales, sponsored runs and fancy dress days, all year round.

Santa’s little helpers at the Arndale have been working hard. One said “We have a small team here who gift wrap any size of present for different prices, depending on what it is that they want wrapping.”

“We want to raise so much money this year, because each year we earn more and more, so each year we want to smash the target.”
